What: First-Timer Safety Meeting
Where: Seward High School gymnasium, 2100 Swetmann Ave.
When: Thursday, July 3 from 6:45-7:30 p.m.
Mandatory for First-Time Racers
- Attendance is mandatory for ALL first-time racers (even though you have completed the entire race course prior to race day as required).
- A first-time racer is defined as someone who has never officially FINISHED a Mount Marathon Race; completing the course in training or attending one of the safety tours does NOT constitute a finish.
- First-time juniors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the entire event, including the safety video and bib pickup.
- The safety meeting will include a video, Powerpoint presentation and Q& A session presented by race committee member Mike Heatwole.
- After the presentation, first-time racers (or their parent/guardian if under 18) must sign a statement that they have completed the entire race course prior to race day before they can pick up their bib.
- Any first-time racer who fails to attend this meeting will be disqualified and will need to re-apply through the lottery for a chance to participate in a future race.
Recommended for All Racers
- Veteran racers are encouraged to also attend the safety meeting; there is something to be learned by all.
- The terrain on Mount Marathon changes every year and there are inherent risks associated with mountain running and racing.
- Veteran racers should also practice the entire race course and be adequately conditioned before participating.
- Underprepared participants may endanger other racers, spectators and medical personnel, and jeopardize the sustainability of the race.
If you do not feel adequately prepared, DO NOT participate in the race.
