To earn Priority Registration in 2025, adult priority racers needed to finish the 2024 race in the top 50.0 percent of their age group of Official Finishers. This rule, approved by the Mount Marathon Race Committee in 2020, replaced the First 225 Finishers Rule for gaining Priority Registration.
- This rule is intended to substantially increase the number of lottery spots and the lottery selection odds. It is also designed to improve the chances of regaining a spot for those who lose priority status.
- Why was this rule change necessary? In 2022, there would have been more racers with priority status than spots available, thereby threatening the ability to even hold a lottery.
- To ensure that inspirational older participants are not displaced, the existing Top 10 Age Group Finishers Rule for Priority Registration will remain.
- Those with 10-Year Status retain Priority Registration regardless of their age-group placing.
- Racers can confirm whether they placed in the top 50 percent of their age group in 2024 at the Results section of the website.
- Those participating on a One-Year entry (Petition, Earned Race Spot, Sponsor or Committee’s Choice) are NOT eligible to earned priority registration through the Top 50 Percent in Age Group Rule.
